Creating Stunning MemoryDex Cards with New Shimmer Flakes
MemoryDex cards have become a beloved way for paper crafters to combine creativity with organization. These small, decorative cards can be used for everything from memory keeping to DIY Rolodex-style organization. Today, we'll explore how you can elevate your MemoryDex cards with the latest trend in paper crafting: **New Shimmer Flakes**.
Introducing Shimmer Flakes
Shimmer Flakes are the latest innovation in embellishing materials, offering a dazzling finish that can transform any paper project. These flakes are a little chunky, adding a fun shimmer and texture to your creations. Available in a variety of colors, Shimmer Flakes can be used to highlight specific areas or cover entire surfaces, making them a versatile addition to your crafting supplies.
What are MemoryDex Cards?
MemoryDex cards, inspired by the classic Rolodex, are small cards that fit into a specially designed holder. They offer a creative way to store memories, ideas, or even contact information. These cards are a canvas for artistic expression, allowing crafters to experiment with different papers, embellishments, and techniques.
Materials You'll Need
To create stunning MemoryDex cards with New Shimmer Flakes, gather the following materials:
- MemoryDex card base DIY these...about 4 x 3 inches)
- **New Shimmer Flakes** in your preferred colors
- Adhesive (glue pen or double-sided tape)
- Paintbrush or sponge for application
- Additional embellishments (stickers, stamps, washi tape)
- Craft scissors
Step 1: Prepare Your Card Base
Start by selecting or cutting your MemoryDex card base. If you’re cutting your own, make sure the dimensions fit your holder. Use sturdy cardstock to ensure your card can support the weight of embellishments.
Step 2: Apply Adhesive
Using a glue pen or double-sided tape, apply adhesive to the areas where you want to add Shimmer Flakes. For intricate designs, a glue pen allows for precision, while double-sided tape can cover larger areas. Two of my cards here used Magic Glue. The 'New Beginnings' card used a strip of 3/4 In Double Sided Adhesive.
Step 3: Add Shimmer Flakes
Sprinkle the Shimmer Flakes over the adhesive areas. Use a paintbrush or craft pick to gently press the flakes into the adhesive, ensuring even coverage. Shake off any excess flakes back into their container for later use.
Step 4: Add Embellishments
Once the Shimmer Flakes are secured, add other embellishments. Consider using stickers, stamps, or washi tape to enhance your design. Layering different textures and materials can create depth and interest. You know we are fans of all the DIY die cuts. Let's put those to work too.
Tips for Success
- **Color Coordination**: Choose Shimmer Flake colors that complement your overall design theme for a cohesive look.
- **Layering**: Don’t be afraid to layer different elements to add dimension to your card.
- **Experimentation**: Try using stencils or masking techniques to create unique patterns with the Shimmer Flakes. I used the Dotted Stencil for the You Got This card as seen above.
Creating MemoryDex cards with New Shimmer Flakes can add a touch of magic and elegance to your crafting projects. These sparkling embellishments offer endless possibilities for customization, allowing you to express your creativity in new and exciting ways. Whether for personal use or as thoughtful gifts, these cards are sure to impress. Would you like to see a card in action?
