some ideas worth sharing

Do you ever make your own DIY kits?

Are you a collection gatherer?

Do you find there is lots left over from collections you never ever use?

I have been thinking quite a bit about those questions lately.

I have been processing how I actually craft in this studio. What I reach for most. What works and what is so very often left over.

Fast forward to the eve of a new month.

Warm and moody range of terracotta hues and palette is filling the ideas for November making and storytelling. Terracotta Color Swatch to be specific. All I did was order from that collection the things that I know I will use.

The items I am reaching for again and again.

What I know I will use and then use up to make room for new.

For we do love the new.

In THIS video here I am talking specifically about just this subject.

Watch that HERE.

I for one am indeed starting to get better about curating my own making kit. Sort of pulling together pieces for a ‘kit of the month’ sort of idea.

I did that quite a bit in September with 49 and Market’s Vintage Orchard. Using that collection I primarily stayed focused on using the pieces in almost all my making in September. And I’m not really done. There are September stories still to tell. As I add stories to my month album there will be this cohesive feel on the pages and it’s an idea I am eager to continue. And it might be one you would like to explore further.

So, the benefits. The benefits to curating your own making kit include:

  • Choosing products that you know you will love and use, just as I mentioned above.
  • A cohesiveness in your current project making as you craft from the same palette.
  • Using your stash more readily.
  • Keeping the decision making to a minimum while crafting.
  • Efficiently exploring the items purchased.
  • Gathering the items all in one place which makes the making go that much smoother.

These are the reasons I came up with for curating a kit from a collection that I know I will actually use. I talk about that subject in this VIDEO I keep referring to. I talk about how to do just that. I talk about how I am going about this month kit idea. I talk about what I find is working and I want to share these ideas with you.

I also touch on the how of storing so that I will use the things and not just be a collector. Or hoarder. Which ever term you deem applicable.

Just wanted to touch on those ideas real quick so let me know if you would like to explore this topic even more. I love hearing from you and always respond so be sure and leave a comment.
