watercolor effect with a twist
Shared this tutorial up on the YouTube channel last week. It was an idea in my head that took me a minute to kind of tweak. Do you ever find that with your ideas?
And when in fact it did get tweaked, I was so happy to share it.
This all started with the Sunshine Blooms Die set that coordinates with the Sunshine Blooms Stamp set. Honestly, was finding myself a little stumped with the dies. So I was determined. Determined to work this out first in my mind, and then with my hands. For sometimes the working it out in one's mind is not enough. As it was, I tried a a few different ways before the concept I will share here with you came to the surface. Then it was like, OK. This is fun. And I want to do it again.
So here is a step by step for making these pretty little blooms.
1. Ink the outline image. For the outline I am using Archival Hickory Smoke. I like that not quite black grey that that ink is. And it's Archival and waterproof so it won't run with the next stamping step that utilizes water.
2. Die cut with the coordinating die. In the video I actually do step 3 before die cutting the stamped image from the paper. It does not really matter, either way. You can die cut now, or add the solid stamp technique first.
3. Ink the solid stamp that goes with the outline stamp just used. Spritz the inked stamp about two times with spray from a water bottle. I like to use the Distress Sprayer. Blot ink off once on a piece of scrap paper. Now stamp inside the previous outline image. Move color around a bit with paint brush if needed.
4. Repeat.
This is a great technique to utilize for pre-makes. Have fun using all the sized flowers that are part of the die and the stamp. And then you have them at the ready. Or even, stamp the outline then die cut. Leave the middles open until you know how you will be using them and then decide on the ink color. Oh..and I like to use Distress Oxides the best for this.
You can see how this Birthday Wishes card opens up when you watch the video. You will also see a second project I crafted using the florals and a similar idea.
