creative practice

Love when inspiration comes to us, which is already all around us, but we get to watch it start to finish.
Today, let's talk about how to spark our creativity.
There are so many ways to do just this.
Today's idea is fairly isolated. It's the inspiration that comes from watching someone else make a something something.

Like this layered tag.

This was strictly inspired by Adrienne Boese who was an educator in the most recent SBC Fest. March 2024 SBC Fest included this mixed media tag.

Now...before we get to much farther in this little post, what is so great about a make like this? It's something I am always sharing whenever I can: this make here, while a fantastic way to just make for the making sake, would also provide a beautiful card front, a gift tag, or even an embellishment cluster for a scrapbook page. Or...just tuck it into a little vignette box and look at it all the time and continue to be inspired.

But let's get back to ideas that inspire creativity.

I watched Adrienne do her magic on her tag. And while I did not have all the supplies she used, and while I did not layer it up like she did, and while I happily worked with what I had, what I did do was took her lovely ideas and simply made them my own.

OK. So that is one idea: case someone else's make.

Here's the second idea for creativity sparking:

Do it again. But different. Stick with the same supplies that are probably all over your work space. And do it again.

Let's walk through this real quick like:

What are the same elements found on both these tags but made for different tags in the end:

well...the tag base, for one. Both these makes started with a tag.
Stenciling on the background.
Rub ons added to the background.
Sprig Dies layered behind a die cut postage shape.
Butterfly rub ons that were transferred to vellum then fussy cut and popped up on the background
And a sentiment.
Oh...and both topped with ribbon.

I also splattered each with white paint because I like to do that. And I forget about it. And I should really do that more.

This is exactly what I did to spark creativity for the making of these two tags. And it does not at all need to stop there. Change up the color and do it again. Change up the elements and do it again. Make three. Collect several and you have an assortment of tags to just give away.

Gosh I love this! And I hope you do too. Spark that creativity. Case what another has done. And watch it magically transform into something that is just yours.
