summer days and stories
For many of us it's summer and the days are already sizzling.
After a very long winter I am totally here for it. Seeking ways everyday to celebrate the outdoors. The beautiful vistas. The cool evenings. Just about anything I can do to participate in this my favorite season.
And you know one of the ways I do that, don't you, dear reader...
I celebrate by taking photos. Writing notes. Paying attention. And telling the story. It's the best way I have found to focus on the good. Look for the grateful. And to be mindful of each and every moment we have with this one life we have to live.
I'm kicking off this (one week before the official first day of summer) week with an addition to my 2022 Family Chapters. I decided on a sort of title page to bring even more celebration to this season.
I printed a 5x7 photo of one of my most favorite places to visit of the summer. It's a hike called William's Canyon here in our area. It holds all kinds of good vibes for me.
Then I layered that image with a piece of vellum. The vellum is scored on the left side edge so that it becomes a page to then turn so one can see the full view of the photo. This is just one way to add more pages to our albums. (I am using the Heidi Swapp Storyline Chapters Scrapbook Insert which you can find HERE.)
I kept the embellishing on the vellum fairly simple. I felt the title page to Summer 2022 did not need much. So I die cut SUMMER from the Tall Skinny Alpha Dies found at ScrapbookCom. I used some of the 49 and Market Vintage Artistry Anywhere pattern papers. I just love that line for all things outdoors and hiking and summer.
I love to mix fonts. Whether I am stamping them or die cutting them. Mixing up fonts brings so much interest to a page. So for the DAYS I first applied a layer of Deep Sea Pops of Color to a swatch of heavy stock paper. Allowing that to dry oh so very well, I then cut out the letters using the Opposites Attract Alpha Dies. I love how this turned out. It's so easy. You could even just have a sesh of layering different colors of the Pops and then cutting various dies from the enameled finish. It's a great DIY embellishment trick.
I grabbed the Party Animal Stamp for that little cute YAY sentiment. Look through all your stamps for the sentiments that can work for different themes. That was stamped with Ranger Glacier White Ink. I love how it plays with the vellum.
