one word 2021

The why is always more important than the what. The why needs a place to be exercised, however. One Word has been a powerful force in my life each year that I pick one. Having a place to write and creatively exercise that word out is also just as powerful. The idea of writing it down holds true here in my One Word album as it does in my scrapbooks and planners. It's a continuation of the same idea.

Today I am starting (fingers crossed) a One Word Series here on the blog. Years past I have started this process with the inspiration of Ali Edward's and her One Little Word Class. This year I am changing things up somewhat.

First, I am not taking the new 2021 class she is offering. Why? Because I never finish them. Instead, this year, I am retaking last year's class. I want all the same prompts to be found in this year's album as I did in last year's album. Only this time I want to actually complete the process.

Second, this year I am using one of the 6x8 Exclusive ScrapbookCom's Albums. I'm always searching for the right album for this story telling process. When I came upon the striped one from this collection I was inspired to start this One Word approach with a new fresh mindset, and a new album. Sometimes we need brand new things to embark on brand new ideas.

Third, I always start the year placing rigid expectations on myself. One of those expectations is that the album and the One Word process is going to stay with one paper line. Not this year. I have released myself from that idea. I ebb and flow creatively way too much. Inspiration is everywhere and I want to respond to that inspiration in an organic way. Hoping this helps me connect better monthly with my word here in the album.

I wonder if too many of us are like this. We come with an idea as to how something should look. Sort of that perfectionist syndrome setting in. Then, when we no longer are inspired by the idea we fail to complete the quest. In this instance connecting with my One Word Album each month. Perhaps it's an idea worth exploring. That is what I am wondering currently. Making a change can in fact add fuel to an idea giving it more longevity. More creativity. More connection. What do you think?

As I continue to add to the first part of my One Word Album, I grabbed the Classic Upper Case Alpha Stamps, also from ScrapbookCom, to create my 'why' cards. Using the Misti Stamp Tool to line these up as best I could I am pretty happy with how these cards turned out. Now to fill them in.

As the beginning pockets get filled in I am also grabbing some of the Simple Scrapbooks Cards to say what I want to say, or to portray what it is I am feeling at the time. These first pages are inspired by many of the patterns and sentiments found on these cards. As I said earlier, however, that does not make me beholden to try and make these cards fit for the whole year. Oh they may make another appearance. But only, and only if, that is what works for me.
