getting creative with slimline cards
I have recently received the Ultra Thick SlimLine Cards from ScrapbookCom in some happy mail. Yeah. I know. ScrapbookCom is truly my destination paper crafts shopping space. There is nothing left here in my area. It fills that crafty vacuum to go and surf around that site to see what I can find.
And while I am not primarily a 'cardmaker', I truly love to dabble in many of the paper crafting genres that are available, I do love to make cards. The SlimLine Cards have been a different shape for me to card make with. I'm enjoying the challenge. I am enjoying thinking outside of the card space to make a fun, special, and festive card.
The card shown here is actually 'slimmer' than the Slimline width of 3-inches wide. I scored the card length wise so that it would wrap around the back of the card. You will see how this happens in a moment. I just think these taller cards are great for holding special items inside. Think snail mail swaps. Oh...that has me thinking of another idea now...see how that happens. Stay tuned for that.
The cover of the card is a Pink Paislee patterned paper I had here in my stash. The die cut vine is a Tim Holtz Thinlit Funky Wreath. I cut Vanilla Bazzill paper for that die cut. I'm pretty much gushing over that vanilla color right now. You will be seeing that again very soon.
The tag embellishment includes notched tags made from Storyline Chapters Pattern paper. Then the XO is part of the Old School Tags from Heidi Swapp. The sticker is also Old School. The paper punched heart is an old paper punch here in my stash. Any heart shape will do. I covered the heart with Ranger Embossing Ink then used new to me Vintage Pearl Ranger Embossing Powder to create a little charm like embellishment.
Inside you can see the fold I made on the length of the card. That fold wraps around the back of the card to hold the contents nicely inside.
A vellum pocket was made and adhered to the inside of the card and holds a Minc Phrase Banner.
I used the banner download that is part of the Heidi Swapp Minc Love class. Foiling, cutting, then stringing the banner together I then tucked it inside the vellum envelope. Now that card is not just a card. It's a gift to brighten someone's day for Valentines.
The larger heart shown embellishing the vellum also used the emboss technique I shared above. That Vintage Pearl Embossing Powder is wow. I love it. Going to have me some creative fun playing with that new toy in the studio.
I hope this inspires you to think outside the card. And also, if you are not a card maker, maybe this inspires you to grab some of those SlimLine cards and start playing with some embellishing ideas and send someone something made by you.
Stay tuned for more SlimLine ideas coming your way very soon.
