sometimes there is the war of art
I am at a bit of a turning point.
I can feel it.
It's this paper artist shift.
Because there is the need to reflect and process what you are doing.
And reset if need be.
Lately I have been a little lost in my storytelling, paper crafting, content creating approach.
This happens on occasion. Well. OK.
This actually happens often.
This happens when I need to make a shift.
I think of artists of times past. (And no...no comparing myself to these artists...just their process).
Works of Picasso. Monet. They shifted through the years. What they started with they did not end with.
I think we paper artists and story tellers need to realize it's ok.
It's ok to shift. Change. Explore. And even just play.
Austin Kleon encourages, if you are at a slow in your creative process. If you feel a change and don't know where to go then: make gifts.
This is sort of what today's a little out of the box project for PaigeEvans and Silhouette is.
It's a gift to me.
It was a gift of play.
This 12x12 mixed media page is a response to my exploring and playing with ideas.
Because wait...there are no rules to this paper art endeavor, right?
If we want to tell a story with photos and words and embellishments then that is what we should do.
If we want to play with paint and textures and paper cuts and yellow!!! Then that is what we should do too!!!
As I contemplate this current pondering over the scrapbook industry, the constant selling of stuff, and the oh but I don't really mean to compare that takes place, I am picking up paint, and color. I am stenciling texture on page. I am splattering paint. I am putting down real thoughts. I am, I guess, finding a new me.
Sort of scary. But a lot of fun too.
In art, as in all things, there is what we so affectionately call: the resistance.
The resistance is the war of art.
As my dear creative guru Madeleine L'Engle reminds me:
the battle
between light
and darkness is
not some kind of
abstract
imbalance
that needs to be recalibrated:
It's war.
I love that it is just paper.
We can make mistakes.
We can start over.
We can re create.
And so the creative battle continues
