Inviting Neon Words
This time of year is about the hustle and bustle of getting kids back to school. And starting a new routine. Summer comes to a crashing close. Ready or not.
For me the fall calendar is drastically different than the summer. As a volunteer in my community I also lead a group of people as we meet with middle schoolers every week. As we train and gather together, I just really want to bring them into this new ‘year’ of serving with a whole lot of encouragement.
One way to do this is to host a little party. Make some sweet treats. And encourage my friends and co-workers to just relax for a moment before jumping in to all the new.
Now. I know this is an easier said than done thing to do. But it’s something I have taken upon myself to do.
And you know what I really find that people always appreciate? Is when the gathering is found to be intentional.
The simplicity of painting a Heidi Swapp Neon Word. And crafting a table laid with cake and coffee. As well as giving attention to the little things, generates a feeling of love and appreciation. The details do not have to be many at all. Simply creating a focal point of food and flowers and a pretty Neon Word really blows people's minds. They really do come away refreshed and renewed. Just from a place that was a little extra special and made purposefully for them.
I find that people often do not do special things for themselves. And I totally get that. My friends who I serve with are busy parents with demanding jobs who love their community and want to do what they can where they can. And I just want to return that sentiment just a little bit and let them know that I notice their sacrifice and love them for it.
My encouragement to you is to do the same. Are the kids a little stressed with the beginning of the new school year? Do you have neighbors overwhelmed with their new routine? Are you part of a group of volunteers that need to know they are special and appreciated? Then gather a few fun and simple party items. And show them how much you care.
