April is National Card and Letter Writing Month.
And that creates a beautiful excuse to make a card and send a note.
It occurred to me that somewhere in our stash of things to never throw away is a stack of cards and letters from time gone by. But I am betting the same cannot be said about our stacks of text messages and emails.
There is joy to finding a handwritten card in the mix of bills and junk mail. It's that piece set aside to read after the mail has been sorted and invariably tossed. That envelope is special.
Admittedly I do not act on this reality very well myself. I think in my mind how thoughtful it would be for me to take a moment, write a note, and send it in the mail. However, the reminder is just as important for this is autobiographical this advise I am giving today. The power of love and thoughtfulness we give away by writing a letter to someone is immense. It's no small thing. Everyone loves to hear from someone else. Is this not why we check our phones 20 times in an hour?
So won't you join me just before the month fades out? Take advantage of a national day promoted by the post office. Whether you are a creative and make your own, or whether you are a pursuer of creative cards in the card aisles. No matter. That's just a detail. The matter is of the heart and whether we respond to the inspiration of the month and send our words to another with the hope to reap a smile.
As an added bonus to you creatives out there...I have crafted a quick and simple video tutorial. I hope you enjoy it and find additional inspiration.
